Obtain a Guardian to Help a Loved One
Guardianships are court proceedings to appoint individuals who have the power to make important decisions for people who cannot make decisions independently because of incapacity or youth. The court appoints a guardian when a person fails to name a power of attorney. Some situations when a guardian may be appointed include:
- When a person becomes incapacitated by injury or illness
- When a person suffers from dementia or senility
- When a minor is unable to make independent decisions
- When a child is left without a parent because of death
